Colour, brilliance and clarity is paramount to appreciate the quality of Ammolite. We believe offering premium Ammolite gemstones and being transparent about our grading system means consistency and understanding for every person. When a stone exhibits the full colour spectrum, especially blue and violet or purple, they are the most sought-after.
AAA (Exquisite), has three or more brilliantly vivid colours, and with no matrix lines visible. Represents only the top 3% of production.
AA (Extra Fine), has slightly lower brilliance at a high grade, and with fine matrix lines possibly present.
A (Fine), has two distinct colours and some fine lines present.
Standard has one or more common colours, primarily green or red, with less desirable colour, pattern and brilliance.
The rarity of gemstone-grade Ammolite is highly coveted as it exists only in one place on Earth and has a limited supply within our lifetime. It is uniquely found in the Bearpaw formation in Southern Alberta, Canada. No other Ammolites in the world replicate the vibrancy and iridescence of our Canadian gemstone.
Unique to Ammolite, the gemstone consists of hundreds of thin, iridescent layers composed mostly of the mineral aragonite. Each thin aragonite platelet acts like a tiny prism allowing for a kaleidoscope of colour.
The colours of Ammolite shine through from refraction of light, playing harmoniously with the iridescent layers. No other coloured gemstone shares this characteristic.
